How We Started

We embarked on our mission in Upper Egypt, an impoverished region where the plight of children was particularly dire. Unfortunately, society often cast a shadow on mentally ill children, branding them as a source of shame for their parents in impoverished communities worldwide. In some instances, these children faced unthinkable acts of cruelty—some were confined until their last breath, while others were hidden away from neighbors and relatives.

Our initial objective was simple yet profound: liberate these children from the confines of their homes, allowing them to bask in the light of day. We started with just one day a week, gradually expanding to a transformative five-day program, striving to inject a glimmer of hope into their lives.

As we progressed, our focus evolved beyond mere recreation. We endeavored to equip these children with practical skills, fostering their ability to engage with others and empowering them to work with their hands. Our dedicated team of teachers, a beacon of compassion, guides these children toward a semblance of normalcy.

Yet, the journey doesn’t end there. For those among them who may be slow learners, we’ve crafted a comprehensive approach. By integrating them into formal schooling during the day and providing tailored one-on-one sessions in the evening, we aim to augment their academic prowess. Our mission extends beyond the immediate to ensure these children not only play and learn but also seamlessly integrate into society, narrowing the gap between them and their peers.
